After 7 years of traveling almost every corner of the country, it's time to find a new home for my van affectionately known as Cohete. Its been featured in the pages of the New York Times and is the vehicle behind the popular online build guide: TheVanual.com.

I recently bought a 4x4 astro van that I'm building out and unfortunately only have room for one van in my driveway. Instead of just selling this van, I'd like to see what it could be traded for. I'm hoping it'll find good use in someone else's hands.

While the interior is still a functional camper, years of trucking through snowy mountain roads and deep baja deserts have taken a toll on the van itself. It needs to go to someone with deeper mechanical knowledge and more time than myself. It starts and drives, but will need some TLC before its ready for another cross-country trip.

The Good

  • Very rare "Access Package" that come with opaque window panels that retain privacy when down but pop up to allow for views and fresh air when camping
  • Fully insulated interior camper build with lots of storage, futon bed/couch and place for a refrigerator and stove
  • Goal Zero solar system (two Boulder 90 panels and a Yeti 1250 "solar generator") power a fan, lights and any other auxiliary devices
  • Large aluminum roof rack on top
  • BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires
  • Heating works well
  • Solid 6.0L Vortec 6000/LQ4 V8 engine
  • In the last 3,000 miles the van has gotten all new spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, starter, brakes, and more. Receipts for almost every repair over the last seven years.

The Bad

  • Check engine light has been on for the seven years I've owned it because of a random misfire (PO300). Other current codes include PO499, PO155, PO171
  • Various gaskets and bushings need to be replaced
  • Steering system could use some attention. Ball joints need to be replaced
  • Instrument cluster defective and will need to be replaced
  • A/C hasn't worked since I've owned it. Never bothered to fix it
  • Registration is expired

The Ugly

  • Van was bought used in Massachusetts so rust has always been a problem. All the common rust spots on these vans could use rust treatment (bottom of doors, rocker panels, etc)
  • Exterior paint peeling (rhino liner paint job in the future?)
  • Smalls cracks and scuffs in the interior camper paint job. Some wood elements have broken in the past and could be replaced, but not necessary

If you have any questions, reach out and I'll try to answer them. Looking forward to your offer.
